Main Course: Simple Steak Marinade


  • 1 pound (454 grams) or ½ kilogram sirloin steak, cut into four pieces
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar, any type but red wine vinegar works best
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce or BBQ sauce
  • ½ teaspoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon combination of dried herbs like Italian seasoning, parsley, basil

Directions for Preparation

  1. In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients except for the steak
  2. Coat each piece of steak in the marinade. Leave the steak in the bowl
  3. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the fridge for at least 2 hours
  4. On a heated grill or pan, cook the steak to the desired level of tenderness
  5. Remove from the heat, cover with foil and let rest 5 minutes before eating

With only a few minutes between rare and well-done, timing is key to make the perfect steak. For a 2 cm, thick steak cook each side: Blue: About 1 minute, Rare: About 1 ½minutes, Medium-rare: About 2 minutes, Medium: About 2 ¼ minutes, Well done: 4-5 minutes.
