NWT Goes Green!

In support of the Government of the Northwest Territories, efforts to reduce the use of single use paper and plastic retail bags, Northern and NorthMart stores gave every household within their communities two free bags - a distribution of over 16,000 reusable shopping bags!
"Supporting this government initiative for the long term benefit of the environment has been a great success. The communities have embraced the program without one complaint in our stores. In addition to the two recyclable bags we gave to each household, our customers have purchased another 7,000 bags in the first four weeks of the program," said Michael McMullen, Executive Vice President, Northern Canada Retail Division of The North West Company. "It is fantastic that our customers have responded and we congratulate them for their clear commitment to reduce waste. This has encouraged us to review a number of aspects in our environmental initiatives and we look forward to future projects with the Northwest Territories.
